Cache County, following Governor Huntsman’s lead, opted to change the business hours of the county administration building to four 10 hour days. The office hours are now Monday – Thursday, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm. This change was implemented to better serve the public. Many citizens are now benefiting from the change.
Once the State of Utah changed its hours, it was no longer possible for the Assessor’s office to offer motor vehicle registration services on Fridays due to state computers being down. It did become possible to offer service earlier in the morning and later in the evening. Cache County chose to offer those extended service hours. Many people are using the extended hours to register their vehicles, obtain marriage licenses, building permits and inspections, etc.
In addition to the citizen benefits, there are cost savings by closing the whole building and not having to fully heat or cool it on Fridays. The savings are small, but nevertheless there are savings to taxpayers.
All full-time employees are still working at least 40 hours per week. Offices serving the public stagger their employee’s lunch hour and keep their offices open 11 hours per day (44 hours per week).
